Major Update to Google Satellite Imagery of India

Google has updated the satellite imagery of lot more places than before and this includes India. [via]

I have added the following places to http://www.mibazaar.com/maps

Taj Mahal, Howrah Bridge/Eden Gardens/Victoria Memorial in Kolkata, satellite view of a plane over Arabian Sea after it had cleared Sahar Airport in Mumbai.

I am having a hard time trying to figure out coordinates for Katra – Jammu & Kashmir, India. What I am trying to see is whether there is a high resolution satellite imagery available for Katra/Vaisno Devi. I have googled on “Katra Jammu and Kasmir Latitude and Longitude”, all it returns is coordinates for Jammu.  If anyone knows the coordinates of Katra could you let me know. Thanks.

Some of the images you will see at http://www.mibazaar.com/maps :

Agra – Taj Mahal

 Golden Temple – Amritsar

Top 20 Best Paid Soccer Players – Mapped

Forbes magazine lists the Top 20 Best Paid Soccer Players. I took that information and instead of creating a new mashup, mashed this up with my existing FIFA World Cup Soccer Mashup.

Quite a few players were born in and around London, England. So I did a couple of things with this mashup:

1. Increased the zoom level.

2. Made the mashup interactive. The user for example has to click the marker for David Beckam to find out who the next best paid soccer player is. When you click on the (x) on the pop up window for David Beckam, the map centers and zooms to the next player location.

Google Maps Mashup for our Community

Here’s the latest mashup which combines RSS Feeds from “Michigan Indian Community Events” group at upcoming.org with Google Maps.

I don’t have a whole lot of events listed out there, but hopefully this list will grow. I find a reluctance out there by some to share information, even though my traffic ranking is quite impressive compared to other India related websites in Michigan.

I plan to use this same mashup to show Indian festivals and events in towns and cities across US and Canada. For this purpose I have created a group “Indian Community events in US and Canada” at upcoming.org

India Related Google Maps Mashup – Idea Suggested

Professor Dr. Shiladitya Chaudhury has suggested a great, India related Google Maps Mashup Idea. He suggests a Google Maps Mashup with Indian Festivities (eg: Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja, Diwali Functions, Dassera/Baisakhi celebrations, etc) , in towns and cities across US and Canada. This would benefit anyone visiting from out of town to quickly look up as to what India related events are taking place currently.

I have already created a Google Map App for this purpose. I will put it out there on mibazaar.com very soon. For this purpose I have created a group called “Indian Community Events in US and Canada” at upcoming.org . Here members of our community can add events. The Google Map will then be dynamically updated with RSS Feeds from this newly created group. So please spread the word!

Google Maps API with Geocoder Support

This is great news [via]. I have been using Yahoo Geocoding extensively in my Mashups (no complaints with Yahoo Gecoding!). I will give Google’s Geocoder a try soon. Geocoding support is now available for US, Canada, Japan, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.  For some reason I don’t see UK on the list. Check out more on the new Geocoding Support at — Google Maps API

Classifieds from your Zip Code on Google Maps

  + + Yahoo Geocoding!

Take a look at my newest mashup of Google Maps with Windows Live Expo API and Yahoo Geocoding. This lists Classifiieds in your Zip Code. Check it out at http://www.mibazaar.com/classifieds This is pretty cool. Only suggestioin I have for the folks at Windows Live Expo is that somehow if they can return the “total count” for a particular category as this would help in pagination – similar to what eBay does. Otherwise this is a pretty cool API. Check out the API details at programmableweb (this is where I found out about this cool new API.
